FAQ's - I got questions!
Do I have to be taking private voice lessons or be in my school's choir to participate?
No! This festival is open to ALL who wish to register between the ages of 6-18.
I'm not so sure about the dancing part - do I have to do the dance?
First of all, you don't HAVE to do anything! But more importantly, you don't have to be a good dancer to have fun in the dance audition room. Pick one move you can remember and do it to the best of your ability - even if it's just clapping your hands or stepping side to side. You get major props for showing up and giving it your best effort. Directors want to see more than your ability to dance, they are looking at your attitude as well. If you give it all you've got, even if it's not the right moves, that scores major points in the "this person looks like fun" category!
Do I need to bring an accompanist or a backing tracks?
Nope! Your registration fee helps to cover our amazing audition accompanist, Janet Carr-Campbell! However, you MUST bring sheet music for her and we will cover how to prepare your music in one of the Pre-Festival Youtube workshops.
What is CCM?
CCM stands for "Contemporary Commercial Music". It encompasses all genres of music that are NOT Music Theatre or Classical style. That means rock, country, pop, rap, folk, jazz, heavy metal....etc.
What is a monologue?
A monologue is a solo SPEAKING part by an actor in a play, musical or movie.
I want to sing a CCM song - do I have to do a monologue?
Again, you don't HAVE to do anything, but if you show up, you'll get the points. A monologue doesn't have to be something from a play. It can also be a short story you've prepared about your song and why you chose it. Think of it like rehearsed banter for a gig. You might be a gigging musician or a pop star one day and you might need to relate to your audience with spoken word. Or, you might have to give a speech at work or in school. This exercise will put apples in your public speaking basket!
Where can I find a monologue?
