Lesson FAQ's
STOP...hammer-time!
Our #1 goal is making sure you have the best teacher for your needs, wishes, goals....let's start with a FAQ of our own. What do you look for in a teacher? location? personality? price? value? skill level? experience? Take a moment to jot down a few ideas about your ideal teacher/voice studio. Then, try us out or try another studio out to find the best fit. It's all about making your voice shine and building your confidence - it's all about what's best for YOU!
So...what is our ideal student?
A great attitude and a willingness to try ANYTHING!
What ages do we teach?
Voice lessons and coaching are available to students of all skill levels aged 7+. We have special group classes for ages 6-8.
What if I've never had a voice lesson before?
That's ok! We work with newbies all the time! We love them!
Are you an approved homeschool vendor and do you direct bill homeschool programs?
Yep! We are an approved homeschool vendor with ASD homeschool programs, Frontier, IDEA, FPCS, Pace and more. If we aren't a vendor with your homeschool program, we'll be happy to apply for vendor status.
I can't make it to regular weekly lessons. Are there any options for me?
Yes! We pride ourselves on being one of the only studios in Anchorage to offer drop-in lessons and online scheduling. Perfect for those needing flexibility in their schedules. Use the Work with us! page to schedule a drop-in session.
We want to have a consistent schedule. Do you offer regular, weekly lessons?
Absolutely! A flat-rate, monthly tuition is best for students 18 and under needing regular, consistent lessons each week.
Tuition includes reserved lesson spot each week, make-up opportunities, special classes, sheetmusic, and CD/mp3 recordings, in addition to performance space rental, recital accompanists, promotional materials (headshot, resume, bio), support at competitions and events and so much more! Feel free to ask us about our tuition rates!
Halp! We don't live in Southcentral Alaska, do you offer online lessons?
Yup! Online lessons are convenient and easy from the comfort of your own home. Online lessons are available through Zoom.
What are your rates?
Well...honestly that's a tricky question...rates are dependent on both the length of lesson and teacher, or even your age. Give us a shout and we can recommend the best path forward. Contact us!
What materials will I need for my lessons?
Most music and exercises will be provided by SVA. Please feel free to bring music you have purchased or would like to work on and please bring your music to EVERY lesson. A recording device is a MUST! Smartphones are great for recording. Download the free app "VOICE RECORD PRO" on IOS for the best lesson recording results.
Do you offer one-time audition coaching?
SVA does indeed offer vocal coaching, acting, audition prep and music theory lessons. If you have a piece you are working on with your regular teacher but need an extra set of ears, vocal coaching may be just for you! We can give you fresh ideas, performance suggestions, help you work through performance anxiety, and give a more detailed offering of your songs. In addition, we have extensive stage experience and music theory skills. Getting ready for college music admissions? Let us help you prepare for your theory exam! Auditioning? Get constructive feedback on your audition package (including headshot and resume recommendations, how to write your bio, and maximizing your hiring potential). Book one-time coaching & music theory sessions on our Work with us! page.
